Canker sores or otherwise known as aphthous stomatitis are the most common causes of painful, open sore in the inner surface of the base of the gums, cheeks, lips, tongue, soft palate of the mouth. About 20-40% of the population has canker sores, at some point of their lives.
Canker sores appear like a white or yellow crate, surrounded by a bright red area. Take note that they are not contagious and tends to occur in women more often than men. This condition commonly occurs among people in adolescence and young adulthood. However, they became less frequent as we age.
